WeLCOME TO BULI LIMESTONE

Every great wine has a story, and so do we. Our founders came together from opposite sides of the world, bound by a love for great wine and the craftsmanship behind it. With deep roots in Italy and Texas, they joined forces to create something truly unique— Buli Limestone Wines, a bridge between two worlds that honor heritage while embracing the future.

Inside our Fredericksburg tasting rooms the sun-soaked vineyards of Tuscany meet the limestone-rich soils of Texas Hill Country. A place where old-world craftsmanship meets new-world spirit, each of our bottles is a testament to tradition, passion, and the belief that great wine should bring people together. Whether you prefer a bold, fruit-forward red or a crisp, elegant white, our wines are crafted, savored, and remembered.

Situated in the heart of Tuscany, Buli Vineyard lies within the storied triangle formed by Montalcino, Montepulciano, and Chianti Classico—three of Italy’s most iconic wine regions. Our estate, located in the prestigious Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, began in 2008 with the planting of its first vines and has since expanded threefold to 5 hectares (12 acres). The limestone-rich soils of our Tuscan hills—remarkably similar to the terroir of the Texas Hill Country—provide the ideal foundation for wines of structure, elegance, and distinction. This is especially fitting for Dr. Robert Buly, whose family once owned travertine marble quarries, another prized form of limestone.

At Buli Vineyards, we spare no effort or expense to craft wines of the highest quality. All of our vineyards are certified organic (Biologico), a designation that requires three years of meticulous documentation and testing. This forces us to minimize chemical input while embracing natural solutions. No insecticides or herbicides are ever used. Instead, we plant nitrogen-fixing cover crops between rows to enrich the soil, support beneficial microbial life, and reduce erosion—all without plowing.

Our microclimate features hot, sunny days and cool nights with low humidity, providing the ideal diurnal variation for developing flavor, balance, and complexity in the grapes. Fungal disease is managed with minimal, carefully timed organic treatments. Harvesting is done entirely by hand to ensure the fruit is processed promptly at peak freshness.

We use only small amounts of sulfites to prevent oxidation and spoilage, allowing the purity of the fruit and the character of the land to shine through. Grapes are picked when sugar and acidity curves intersect—producing wines with firm tannic structure and vibrant, crisp acidity. Select red wines are aged in French oak barrels or large Slavonian oak botti to impart depth, finesse, and long aging potential.

From our six red varietals to our rosato and bianco, every bottle is a reflection of Tuscan tradition, modern science, and our deep respect for the land. At Buli Vineyards, winemaking is not just a craft—it’s a philosophy rooted in passion, precision, and place.

At Limestone Terrace Vineyard, our winemaking is grounded in Texas Grit—that uncommon blend of resilience, resourcefulness, and pride that defines those who work this land. From rebuilding after fire to farming limestone slopes, from growing estate vines to collaborating with top Texas growers, we’ve forged a legacy built on perseverance, partnership, and a relentless pursuit of quality.

We proudly produce 100% Texas-grown and crafted wines. Through years of hands-on research and exploration, we’ve found that the grapes best suited to Texas are not the usual California varietals, but those born of the Mediterranean—heat-tolerant, drought-resistant, and full of expressive character. Among them, we’ve developed a deep passion for Italian varietals like Sangiovese, Dolcetto, Montepulciano, and Teroldego.

We haven’t taken the easy path. Rather than planting what’s popular, we’ve focused on what belongs—grapes that thrive in Texas soil, sun, and humidity. Since our first vintage in 2019 with a bold Texas Dolcetto, we’ve been introducing wine lovers to distinctive varietals, expanding palates and deepening appreciation for what Texas terroir can truly offer.

In the winery, we pair tradition with precision. Whites and rosés are aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness and lift; reds are aged thoughtfully in new and neutral oak to balance structure, nuance, and elegance. Whether grown on our former Hill Country estate or sourced from our High Plains partners, every bottle is a reflection of place, intent, and pride.

That dedication has brought recognition. Our 2020 Estate Mourvèdre earned Double Gold, Texas Class Champion, and Class Champion at the 2023 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition. Our 2020 Dolcetto was named Reserve Texas Class Champion, and our 2020 Teroldego was awarded Best Texas Red at the 2023 Texas International Wine Competition.

Our unyielding pursuit of perfection has earned Limestone Terrace a reputation as one of the most up-and-coming boutique wineries in the state. We don’t follow trends—we follow truth. And in every bottle, Texas Grit runs deep: bold, authentic, and rooted in the land we love.

MEET THE FOUNDERS

Robert BULY, MD

Co-founder of Buli Limestone Wines Robert Buli

A hip and knee orthopedic surgeon at Hospital For Special Surgery and Cornell University Medical College, Dr. Robert Buly’s journey into winemaking is a story that blends family legacy, scientific insight, and a deep-rooted love for Tuscany. His father, a U.S. Army sergeant, found more than a battlefield during the Italian campaign of World War II—he found the love of his life in a small Tuscan village. That connection to the land and its people took root and would eventually blossom into Buli Vineyard.

Today, Dr. Buly owns Buli Vineyard in Trequanda, Italy, at Podere Collalto, meaning "farm on a high hill." Holding dual citizenship, he proudly continues the traditions of his Italian relatives, who have produced wine and olive oil for generations. Through Buli Vineyard, he celebrates a family legacy, a passion for the land, and the timeless allure of great wine shared among friends. This passion is shared by his loving wife Lynne, three children and grandchildren.
